A method for the taxonomic identification of 7 close bacteria species of the Bacillus subtilis group (B. subtilis, B. amyloliquefaciens, B. licheniformis, B. vallismortis, B. atrophaeus, B. sonorensis, and B. mojavensis) using specific primers selected on the basis of the gyrA gene sequences has been developed. The effectiveness of the method for either pure cultures of type or collection and industrial bacterial strains of this group was demonstrated. The method seems to be applicable in principle to the detection of the B. subtilis group bacteria in mixed cultures.

Key words:  Bacillus subtilis,  gyrA gene,  identification,  species-specific primers.
