A novel UDUS and a known polysterene Amberlite XAD-2 adsorbents were applied for the first time to the extraction of an A-1149 antibiotic complex from the cultural broth of a Streptomyces sp. № 1149 producing strain. It was established by the method of thin-layer chromatography and following bioauto­graphy that unlike Amberlite, UDUS more selectively extracts the A-1149 antibiotic complex components with lipophylic characteristics and minimizes ninhydrin-positive admixtures in the preparation. This permits to essentially reduce the number of stages required for the isolation and purification of the novel antibiotic.
