A process of biological leaching of waste of ores flotation from the Uchalinskii Mining Plant in laboratory percolators has been investigated in comparison with a process performed under stationary conditions. The modeling of the bioleaching process was carried out using a strain of Acidithiobacillus ferrooxidans IB 2 that demonstrated a significant oxidizing activity towards the flotation waste and was capable of growing in the occurrence of 16 g/l copper and 65 g/l zinc. A suggested technology including a preliminary treatment by 1 % sulfuric acid provides the stability of the leaching solution рН, favors the sulfide-oxidizing bacteria reproduction, and therefore accelerates the leaching process and enhances the degree of the metal extraction. As a result of the modified bioleaching technology application, it was possible to achieve the rate of zinc and copper extraction by 66,2% and 40,3 % of their starting content in the waste, respectively. The obtained data were comparable with those obtained using the “tank” (stationary) technology, whereas the suggested technique retained all the advantages of a continuous process.

Key words:  copper,  ore bioleaching,  waste recycling,  zinc.
