A comparative investigation of a laboratory enzyme preparation obtained using Penicillium verruculosum fungus and a Cellic CTec-2 commercial cellulolytic preparation that is currently one of the most effective for bioconversion of plant cellulosic raw materials has been conducted. Specific activities of these enzyme preparations towards a number of substrates, pH- and temperature optima, stability, qualitative, quantitative composition of the preparations, and limit extents of conversion of four types of plant cellulosic raw materials (corn stover and bagasse pretreated by steam explosion, milled pine and aspen wood) during their hydrolysis by these preparations were also compared. It was established that the laboratory preparation of P. verruculosum and the Cellic CTec-2 commercial preparation possess approximately identical characteristics that determine the application expediency of biocatalysts in industrial biotechnology, and therefore, the first is a competitive preparation for bioconversion of renewable plant raw materials.

Key words:  cellulases,  cellulosic raw materials,  enzymatic saccharification,  Penicillium verruculosum,  Trichoderma.
