The review summarizes the information concerning the following biotechnological applications of microbial biofilms: for biodegradation of organic and inorganic substances during wastewater decontamination, in biosynthesis and biocatalysis. Main types of reactors for proceeding of biotechnological processes based on microbial biofilms are discussed. The advantages and drawbacks of biocatalysts used in the form of microbial biofilms for biotransformations of organic substances are examined.
