A screening of the thirteen yeast genera from the All-Russian Collection of Industrial Microorganisms in order to find out a potential recipient for the following cloning of the lactate dehydrogenase gene (ldh) and obtaining of a lacticacid overproducer has been performed. A capacity of growing at low pH value and in the occurrence of high concentration of lactic acid served as criteria for the screening. It was shown that the greatest natural resistance to lactic acid at low pH is characteristic of the Schizosaccharomyces pombe yeast. The latter were resistant to the 8% concentration of lactic acid in medium at pH 4.0; a portion of the population were capable of performing glycolysis in the occurrence of 10% of lactic acid.
Key words: high resistance to lactic acid; lactate dehydrogenase; lactic acid, Schizosaccharomyces pombe yeast, screening of recipient for cloning.
