The review is focused on the methods of genetic engineering that are used for the construction of industrial strains of Bacillus genus, preferably B. subtilis and B. amyloliquefaciens. Gram-positive endospore-forming bacteria of the Bacillus genus belong to one of the most diverse and widely represented groups of microorganisms. Their ubiquitous spreading is a result of their high adaptability to a variety of environmental conditions. Various members of the Bacillus group are tolerant to the occurrence or absence of oxygen; they are able to grow within wide temperature and pH ranges and to use various organic and inorganic compounds for growth. The natural capacity of the Bacillus species of producing and excreting a number of valuable cell metabolites to be used in industry, agriculture and medicine, as well as the storage stability, processability and environmental safety of these bacteria make them the most important subjects for industrial biotechnology. The review includes descriptions of vector systems, methods for the introduction of gene material into bacilli cells and analysis of modern techniques for the construction of recombinant strains on their basis.

Key words:  Bacillus amyloliquefaciens,  Bacillus subtilis,  construction of industrial strains,  genetic engineering of bacilli.
