The results of a research on the improvement of standardization of the brunch opacity standard samples BOSS material system using the Coulter method of the electrical sensing zone are represented. The method provided an experimental confirmation of the sufficient reproducibility of the BOSS preparation; it permitted to assess the mean particle size (0.5—3.5 mm) and their content in the suspension (no less than 95%), to establish that the decrease in opacity during storage is a result of the reduction of particle number, and to show the interchangeability of glass brands from different manufacturers. The value of the standard deviation of the average size of the glass particle was 0.7 % in terms of intermediate precision, which is significantly lower than the allowable deviation value of the optical density of the BOSS material obtained by the photocolorimetric method ( ± 5%). The Coulter method can be recommended as an additional approach to the control of BOSS for bacterial suspensions during their preparation.
Key words: Coulter electrical sensing zone method, particle counter, standard sample of opacity, standardization of bacterial suspensions.
