Glycolipids and phospholipids from probiotic strains deposited in the Belarusian Collection of non-Pathogenic Microorganisms (BIM) have been investigated. The representatives of different genera were shown to have distinct lipid profiles of taxonomical value. Two of the studied strains were selected for a careful lipid composition analysis, namely Lactobacillus plantarum BIM В-495-D and Lactococcus lactis subsp. cremoris BIM B-493-D. The major glycolipid was isolated from the latter strain in the pure state by column and preparative thin layer chromatography. Antibodies reacting with the major glycolipids from both strains were detected in healthy rabbit sera.

Key words:  bacteria identification,  chemotaxonomical markers,  glycolipids,  glycoconjugates,  phospholipids,  preparative column chromatography,  thin-layer chromatography.
