The properties of two new biocomposites containing hydrothermal (HTH) or enzymatic (FH) hydrolysate of keratin-containing stocks as loading agents have been investigated. It was shown that the addition of loading agents in an amount of not higher than 50% to the samples permits to produce plastic and actively biodegradable materials which can be processed into ready-to-use stuffs. According to the obtained data, a sample containing 50% of FH, 45% of polyethylene (PE) and 5% of sevylene (SEV) has the optimal combination of deformation characteristics and elasticity. The introduction of FH in the biocomposite was accompanied by a 12-fold increase in the elastic modulus and reduction of the deformation characteristics: tensile strength, by 2 times, and relative elongation, by ~ 8 times, in comparison with the control (PE-or SEV-containing) samples. The investigation of physical and mechanical properties of the biocomposites showed that FH is a more perspective loading agent than HTH; its addition led to a lower decrease in the deformation characteristics allowing to produce more moldable plastics.

Key words:  biocomposites,  biodegradable polymers,  keratin-containing materials.
